Romantic V classicism art or sometimes known as Classical v Baroque, 'baroque' meaning emotional, depicting drama with a X running through the composition and 'classical' depicting a classical form with a triangular base. Classical form is impressionism representing stability and is often seen in ancient roman and Greek art. Baroque art is expressionism and is emotional, off center, horizontal and unsettling.
Examples of classicism art include the neoclassical painter Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres his work depicts signals of stability, lack of emotion and use of triangular shapes is prominent throughout
Ingres - Madame Moitessier
An example of Baroque art features 'Peter Paul Rubens' his art emphasised the movement with vivid colour, rich texture and sensuality. His art is off centered showing lack of stability and indicating high drama and emotion. The use of strong contrasts of light and shadow enhance the dramatic effect in his work, for example in the piece ' Daniel in the lions den'.
